Quantum Peaks II: Experience, Try Out, and Collaboratively Explore Quantum Technologies
Three days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, three challenges, and a shared mission: How can quantum technologies be made understandable and experienced in a practical way?
Following the first Quantum Peaks Science Camp last year, the second edition took place from September 29 to October 1, 2026. The BMFTR-funded projects “Quantum Minilabs” and “QUANDERLAND” joined forces once again to organize a science camp.
The focus was on three challenges related to sustainable buildings, quantum sensing, and the “Quantum Heart.” Participants worked on the challenges in teams and presented their findings in pitches on the final day.
The Quantum Minilabs were also used outside of the Science Camp. At the Archdiocesan St. Irmengard High School in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, we had the opportunity to conduct workshops with female students. Among other things, they got to try out a Michelson interferometer. QUANDERLAND rounded out the program with an escape game that provided a playful introduction to quantum physics.
In addition to the technical program activities, there was plenty of opportunity for discussion and shared experiences. A special highlight was the sunrise hike on the last day. Early in the morning, everyone headed into the mountains together before the results of the challenges were presented.
The atmosphere throughout the three days was marked by curiosity, openness, and a great deal of enthusiasm. Participants discussed, experimented, laughed, and worked together on new ideas.
Quantum Peaks II demonstrated that quantum technologies can not only be researched but also discovered and experienced together.
